HighLevel runs its own certification program, and "HighLevel Certified Admin" badges now appear on agency websites, Upwork profiles and LinkedIn. Is it worth paying for, and does it matter when you're hiring someone? This guide covers what the GoHighLevel certification is, what it costs, how the exam and renewal work, and when it helps, for freelancers, VAs and agencies and for the businesses hiring them.
1. What is the GoHighLevel certification?
It's HighLevel's official training and credential program. The main credential is HighLevel Certified Admin, earned by completing the course and passing a live, proctored exam. After that you can add skills badges in specific areas. Certified people can be listed in HighLevel's Certified Directory, where businesses and agencies look for help.
2. How much does it cost?
- $97 per month, or $970 per year (about two months free on annual).
- It's a separate subscription from your GoHighLevel plan, so you pay both. See GoHighLevel pricing.
- Teams of more than 15 can ask HighLevel about enterprise pricing.
These are the figures at the time of writing; check HighLevel's certification page before you sign up, as the program has changed over time.
3. How to get certified, step by step
- Enrol on the certification page (monthly or annual) and get access to the training portal and community.
- Work through the modules, including hands-on tasks inside GoHighLevel. HighLevel designs it to take around 7–10 days at a steady pace; experienced users can go faster.
- Pass the live proctored exam to earn the Certified Admin badge.
- Choose whether to be listed in the Certified Directory.
- Earn skills badges to keep the certification current.
4. Skills badges
After the Admin badge, specialised badges cover areas such as:
- A2P compliance (see A2P 10DLC registration)
- AI Employee (see GoHighLevel AI)
- HIPAA compliance (see is GoHighLevel HIPAA compliant?)
- Paid ads, SaaS, course creation, social media and quick wins
5. Renewal: what keeps it active
- The Admin badge is valid for two years from passing the proctored exam.
- You need to earn at least two additional skills badges each year.
- The subscription must stay active. If you cancel, the certification becomes inactive and you're removed from the directory; re-enrolling within 90 days reactivates it, after that you sit the exam again.
6. Is GoHighLevel certification worth it?
Worth it if you:
- Are a freelancer, VA or new agency without many reviews yet; the badge is a quick trust signal.
- Want leads from the Certified Directory.
- Are newer to GoHighLevel and want structured training.
- Sell to agencies or larger clients who ask for it.
Less important if you:
- Already have strong case studies, reviews and referrals.
- Mostly do custom development and API work, which the certification doesn't test in depth.
- Are a business owner managing only your own account.
At $970 a year, one extra client usually covers it. The badge proves you know the platform; it doesn't prove you can design a system that gets results, which is what clients actually pay for.
7. Hiring: certified admin vs experienced builder
If you're hiring GoHighLevel help, treat the badge as one signal among several:
- Ask for real examples: workflows they built, results they measured, and case studies.
- Check compliance knowledge: A2P 10DLC, consent and, if relevant, GDPR or HIPAA.
- Test problem-solving: ask how they'd fix a workflow that stopped firing, or connect an app with no native integration.
- Start with a small paid task before a big project.
The full checklist is in how to hire a GoHighLevel VA, and costs are in how much a GoHighLevel expert costs.
8. Other ways to learn GoHighLevel

Frequently asked questions
Do I need certification to work as a GoHighLevel VA or freelancer?
No. It's optional. Clients mostly judge you on reviews, examples of your work and results; certification is a helpful extra signal, especially when you're new.
Is GoHighLevel certification recognised outside HighLevel?
It's a platform credential, so it carries weight with GoHighLevel users and agencies rather than as a general qualification.
Can I show my GoHighLevel certification on Upwork or LinkedIn?
Yes. Add it to your profile's certifications and mention it in your headline or overview, along with the work you've done.
