GoHighLevel templates and snapshots promise a shortcut: import a ready-made funnel, website, set of workflows or even a full "AI employee" and skip weeks of setup. Some are excellent; many are generic and need almost as much work as building from scratch. This guide explains the difference between templates and snapshots, what AI employee snapshots actually include, how to import one safely, and what to check before you pay for one.
1. Templates vs snapshots
| Templates | Snapshots | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A starting design for one asset: a funnel, website, page, email or form | A copy of a whole sub-account's setup |
| Includes | Layout and content for that asset | Funnels, websites, forms, workflows, pipelines, calendars, custom fields and values, email and SMS templates, AI agents and more |
| Where from | Built into the GoHighLevel builders, or sold by designers | Shared by link from another agency, bought from sellers, or made from your own account |
| Best for | A quick, decent-looking page | Launching a complete system for a business or niche |
2. GoHighLevel website, funnel and landing page templates
The funnel and website builders include ready-made templates you can pick when creating a new funnel or site, plus page and section blocks. They're a fine starting point, but they look like everyone else's, so change the copy, images and colours, and make sure every form connects to a workflow. For a high-traffic business site, compare GoHighLevel websites vs a custom website.
Before you use any template, check:
- It loads fast and works on a phone.
- Forms include a proper consent checkbox for SMS and email (required for A2P 10DLC and GDPR).
- There are real privacy policy and terms pages.
- Placeholder text, fake reviews and stock claims are removed.
3. What's in a GoHighLevel snapshot
A snapshot can carry most of a sub-account's build:
- Funnels, websites, forms and surveys.
- Workflows and triggers, email and SMS templates.
- Pipelines, calendars, custom fields and custom values.
- Memberships and courses.
- AI setups: Conversation AI bots (prompts, actions, settings and training URLs), Voice AI agents and Agent Studio agents.
What doesn't come with it, and must be set up in each account:
- Contacts and conversations.
- Phone numbers (Voice AI and texting won't work until a number is assigned).
- Domains and email sending setup.
- Integrations such as Google, Facebook and Stripe.
- A2P 10DLC registration, which is per business.
4. What is an "AI employee" snapshot?
AI Employee is HighLevel's name for its bundle of AI tools in a sub-account, such as Conversation AI (texts and chat), Voice AI (calls), Reviews AI, Content AI and workflow AI. It's a paid add-on, about $50 or $97 per sub-account per month depending on the plan.
An AI employee snapshot is a snapshot with those AI tools already set up: bot prompts, knowledge sources, booking actions, call flows and the workflows around them. Some are sold to agencies as a whole "AI offer", with niche sales pages, demo calendars, follow-up sequences and ad templates so the agency can sell AI receptionists to local businesses.
What decides whether one is any good:
- The prompts and knowledge are rewritten for each business. A generic bot gives generic, sometimes wrong, answers.
- There are clear limits: what the AI must never promise (prices, medical or legal advice), and when it hands over to a person.
- Booking actually works with the right calendar and time zone.
- Consent rules are respected for outbound texts and calls. See the Voice AI guide.
- Someone tests and reviews conversations weekly. See setting up Conversation AI well.
5. How to import and load a snapshot
(Moving contacts too? See exporting and importing contacts.)
- Import it into your agency's snapshot library using the share link from the seller or agency. Importing alone changes nothing in any client account.
- Load it into a sub-account, either when creating a new sub-account or into an existing one.
- Choose how to handle conflicts: items with the same name can be overwritten or skipped; there's no merge. Never overwrite a live client account without a backup snapshot of it first.
- Fill in custom values (business name, phone, booking link, address) so templates and messages are correct.
- Connect the account-specific parts: number, domain, email, integrations and A2P.
- Test before turning workflows on. A snapshot's workflows can fire on real contacts the moment they're published.
6. Where to get snapshots
- Free: shared by other agencies or communities; quality varies a lot.
- Marketplaces and sellers: niche snapshots for med spas, dentists, roofers, real estate and so on, often $97–$997, sometimes bundled with support services.
- Your own: build one great account, then snapshot it. This is what most successful agencies do; see the snapshots guide for agencies.
- Custom-built: designed around how a specific business runs, which is what my case studies are.
7. Before you buy a snapshot: checklist
- Can you see a demo account or screenshots of the workflows, not just the funnel?
- Does it use custom values, so it adapts to each business?
- Are workflows named clearly and left in draft or behind a setup tag?
- Is there documentation on what to set up after loading?
- Does it include compliant forms and SMS opt-in wording?
- How are updates delivered, and is support included?
- Do the AI prompts include guardrails and a handover to a person?
8. When a snapshot isn't enough
Snapshots are great for repeatable setups. They struggle when a business has its own pricing rules, integrations or processes, such as quotes calculated from several inputs, syncing with accounting software or practice management systems. That's where custom work comes in: custom code and API logic or connecting other apps.

Frequently asked questions
Can I share a snapshot with another agency?
Yes. You can create a share link for a snapshot, and the other agency imports it into their own account.
Do snapshots update automatically after they're loaded?
No. Loading a snapshot copies it once. When you improve the snapshot later, you can push selected updates to sub-accounts that use it.
Can I sell my own GoHighLevel snapshots?
Yes. Many agencies sell niche snapshots, either directly or through marketplaces. Include setup instructions and test them in a fresh sub-account first.
