GoHighLevel connects to thousands of other apps through n8n, Zapier and Make. This guide shows how to set up a GoHighLevel n8n integration and a GoHighLevel Zapier integration properly, how to send data both ways with webhooks, four real workflows, and the habits that stop integrations from silently breaking.
1. Three ways to connect GoHighLevel to n8n or Zapier
- The built-in app or node: n8n's HighLevel node and Zapier's LeadConnector app. Quickest for common jobs like creating contacts and opportunities.
- Webhooks: a GoHighLevel workflow sends data out to n8n or Zapier, or receives data through an inbound webhook trigger. Works for any event a workflow can see.
- Direct API calls from n8n's HTTP Request node, for anything the built-in node doesn't cover. See the GoHighLevel API guide.
Most real setups use all three: the node for simple actions, webhooks for triggers, and API calls for the rest.
2. n8n GoHighLevel integration
What the HighLevel node can do
- Contacts: create or update, get, get many, update, delete
- Opportunities: create, get, get many, update, delete
- Tasks: create, get, get many, update, delete
- Calendar: book an appointment, get free slots
Connecting n8n to GoHighLevel (OAuth2)
n8n's HighLevel credentials support API v2 through OAuth2 (the old API v1 key option is deprecated). Following n8n's docs:
- In the HighLevel Marketplace developer portal, go to My Apps → Create App and set the distribution type to Sub-Account.
- Add the scopes the node needs:
locations.readonly,contacts.readonly,contacts.write,opportunities.readonly,opportunities.write,users.readonly. Add calendar and other scopes if you'll use them. - Copy the OAuth redirect URL from the n8n credential screen into the app's redirect URLs.
- Paste the app's Client ID and Client Secret into n8n, enter the scopes as a space-separated list, and connect.
Triggering n8n from GoHighLevel
The HighLevel node performs actions; to start an n8n workflow when something happens in GoHighLevel, use a webhook. Add a Webhook trigger node in n8n, copy its production URL, then in a GoHighLevel workflow add the Webhook action pointing to that URL. Any trigger GoHighLevel has (form submitted, tag added, appointment booked, opportunity stage changed) can now start your n8n workflow with the contact's data.
Anything else: the HTTP Request node
For endpoints the node doesn't include (conversations, custom objects, invoices), call the API directly with a Private Integration token stored as an n8n credential:
Method: POST
URL: https://services.leadconnectorhq.com/contacts/upsert
Headers: Authorization: Bearer {{ $credentials.ghlToken }}
Version: <value from the endpoint's docs page>
Content-Type: application/json
Body: {
"locationId": "YOUR_LOCATION_ID",
"email": "{{ $json.email }}",
"phone": "{{ $json.phone }}",
"tags": ["n8n-import"]
}3. GoHighLevel Zapier integration
On Zapier, GoHighLevel appears as LeadConnector, HighLevel's official app (search for either name). Connect it by signing in to LeadConnector and choosing the sub-account.
- Triggers include events such as new contacts, tag changes, form submissions, appointments and pipeline stage changes.
- Actions include add or update a contact, add or update an opportunity, add a contact to a workflow, stop workflows for a contact, and add a task.
If you need an event LeadConnector doesn't offer, use a GoHighLevel workflow webhook sending to Webhooks by Zapier (a paid Zapier feature). The same works in Make with its custom webhook module.
4. Four real workflows
Lead forms from any platform into GoHighLevel
Facebook lead forms have a native GoHighLevel integration, so use that first. For other sources (TikTok, LinkedIn, a custom website, a booking tool), send the lead to n8n or Zapier, clean the phone number into international format, then upsert the contact in GoHighLevel with a tag that starts your speed-to-lead workflow. If the source can post a webhook directly, a GoHighLevel inbound webhook trigger can skip the middle tool entirely.
AI lead scoring with n8n
A GoHighLevel form submission fires a webhook to n8n. n8n sends the answers to an AI model with clear scoring rules, gets back a score and a one-line summary, and writes both to custom fields. A GoHighLevel workflow then routes hot leads to a person straight away. For AI inside GoHighLevel itself, compare this with Agent Studio.
Invoices and payments in accounting software
When an opportunity is marked won or a job is completed, n8n creates the invoice in Xero or QuickBooks, and when it's paid, updates the contact and opportunity back in GoHighLevel. I built this two-way pattern for a pest inspection company.
Voice agent call outcomes
A custom voice agent (Vapi or Retell) posts its call result to n8n, which updates fields, moves the opportunity and starts the next workflow. More in the GoHighLevel Voice AI guide.
5. Which tool should you use?
| Use | When |
|---|---|
| GoHighLevel workflows only | Everything happens inside GoHighLevel. Always the first choice. |
| Zapier | Simple, linear connections and non-technical teams. Costs rise with task volume. |
| Make | Visual multi-step scenarios with branching, cheaper than Zapier at volume. |
| n8n | Complex logic, AI steps, code, high volume, or self-hosting for cost and data control. |
| Custom code | Two-way syncs, portals and anything the tools can't do reliably. |
The full comparison is in GoHighLevel vs n8n vs Make vs Zapier.
6. Make your integrations reliable
- Upsert, don't create, so retries and repeat leads don't make duplicate contacts.
- Add error handling: an n8n error workflow, or Zapier's error notifications, so a failed run alerts someone.
- Respect rate limits (100 requests per 10 seconds per sub-account). Batch big imports and add waits.
- Pass a unique ID (form submission or event ID) and skip ones already processed.
- Normalise data before it reaches GoHighLevel: phone format, names, dates.
- Test in a separate sub-account and check the execution history weekly.
- Document every connection: what triggers it, which credential it uses and who owns it.
When something stops working, start with the error message; the GoHighLevel errors guide explains 400, 401, 403 and 429 responses.
